Duties and responsibilities:

Many veterinarians treat small companion animals. As a small animal vet, you may perform services such as spaying and neutering, setting broken bones, treating wounds and providing geriatric care for older pets.

Median pay (hourly): 40.61 USD (2012)

Education:

Entry level education: Doctoral or professional degree

However, most students enter veterinary school with a bachelor's degree. Whichever undergraduate major students pursue, coursework should focus heavily on the biological and physical sciences, such as chemistry, genetics, microbiology and physiology.

Demand for this particular career:Studies in communication, social science, humanities and mathematics may also be beneficial for the transition into veterinary school.
